TerschellingWad

Title: Terschelling, view at the 'Wad'
Caption: Terschelling [prov.of Friesland] View at the 'Wad'. 'Wadden' denotes the muddy flats between the islandsTexel, Vlieland, Terschelling. Ameland, Schiermonnikoog and Rottum and the Dutch mainland. Twice a day the flats are overfloated by high tide coming in from the Northsea, which brings more mud and sand into this 'half-sea-half-continent' area thus constantly changing the shape of the isles and the Waddensea. Experts who know the area very well can cross the this area with sandplates, mud-flats,creeks and dangerous gullies when the tide is low. They can walk from the mainland to some of the isles. It even became a touristic event, only to be performed with expert-guides. Photo by Sijbren Sijtsma, summer 2005. Zenit-122 with Helios-44M-4 (2/58) [1/250-f16]
