Caption: Haarlem [prov. of Noord-Holland] The old town of Haarlem at the Spaarne river which flows through the old town-centre. The building in the centre -with the black roof- is 'de Waag' (the Weigh-house). You'll find these Weigh-housen in lots of old Dutch towns. This one dates from 1597 and is conveniently situated at the river Spaarne, so ships could easily have their loads weighed here to find out the tax they had to pay. Photo by G.van Lienen-Visser
