The
so-called Adriaen Block map from 1614
Made
on vellum, mainly in red ink. The part around present New York city is
drawn in later with black ink. The red ink part is drawn during 1611/12
expeditions by Dutch mapmaker Cornelis Doetsz. Merchant Adriaen
took the unfinished map during his 1613/14 expeditions to the area: on
his obervations the map was later completed by an unknown mapmaker in
the Netherlands.

Map
from north-east America with the so-called 'Restitutio-scene'
Engraving,
with contemporary coloring. The copperplate was inherited by Karel Allard
from his father in 1691 and published in Amsterdam about 1700. This map
was a straight copy from the N.J.Visscher map from about 1655. On this
map was another scene of Nieuw Amsterdam: this was erased later and substituted
by this Restitutio-scene.

This map is interesting for its slightly mistaken geography and its
combination of many tongues in place names.
